Bryan Smith from Microsoft is our speaker. With Microsoft sending Bryan to speak on SQL Server 2012, we're doing things a little different this month in the form of having a lunch meeting and a dinner meeting. The presentation topics will be different between meetings. We're also meeting at a new location (GDH Consulting), as the okcCoCo is on hiatus.

SQL Server 2012 BI Lunch - 11:30am - 1:00pm - SQL Server is more than a relational engine, it is an entire data platform. Business Intelligence is hot right now and Bryan is bringing in a blowtorch of SQL Server 2012 information to help make your data light up the company. Our friends at GDH will be providing food so you only have to worry about learning.

SQL Server 2012 DBA/Dev Dinner - 6:00pm - 8:00pm - SQL Server 2012 brings to us even more management control, security, and monitoring. Bryan is an Ace and you are sure to learn some of the ways SQL Server 2012 will make life easier. Our understanding is that Bryan is planning to speak about 2/3 on DBA functionality and 1/3 on Developer functionality related to SQL Server 2012. Like with the lunch meeting, GDH will be providing food so come enjoy the topic!
Then, we’ll explore how parameter sniffing can go wrong and I’ll show you seven different ways you can deal with it when it does.

Jen McCown, hugely popular speaker at SQL Saturday Oklahoma City this past August, is our remote speaker. Jen is a SQL Server MVP, Co-Host of the popular MidnightDBA postcast, author, community leader and all around educator of masses..

T-SQL Brush-up: The Best Things You Forgot You Knew About SQL Code (aka Forgotten T-SQL) and will cover:

You’re a good SQL professional – you attend conferences and webinars, you read articles and books, and you know your way around SQL Server. But sometimes – just SOMEtimes – some piece of T-SQL slips by you unnoticed, or falls out of memory. Most of us are working with at least two or three out of the last five versions of SQL Server, so who can blame us for missing a feature or two? Come and revisit old favorites, and brush up on new T-SQL features and enhancements. In this session you will see SELECT turned inside-out. You’ll get really, really excited about OVER and PARTITION BY. You’ll learn that Common Table Expressions are, in fact, very cool, and that FOR XML isn’t as scary as it looks. And what’s more, we’ll look and BRAND-new features like SQL Server Denali’s new SEQUENCE object! This session is chock full of code examples, including before-and-after demos and how-to illustrations.

The room is sponsored by GDH and no food will be provided. The meeting will be held Monday, December 12th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the at the OKC COCO Click Here for Directions

This isn't a recruiter session that'll tell you to wear a tie and smile. I'm a real Sr. DBA who hires DBAs all the time. I'm going to tell you what we look for in a DBA, and the types of things you should and shouldn't say. I'll show you how to pass a tech screening and get past the HR portion as well. Your mama can teach you how to dress. I'm gonna teach you how to get hired. You seriously can't afford to miss this discussion because it'll be the most candid anyone will ever be with you about interviews. This will be a fun and very interactive session. And yes, you will be exposed to some pottymouth... it's in the title.
