This session will take a hard look at different things that happen in interviews and give you what you need to know to get that next job. This isn't a recruiter session that'll tell you to wear a tie and smile. I'm a real Sr. DBA who hires DBAs all the time. I'm going to tell you what we look for in a DBA, and the types of things you should and shouldn't say. I'll show you how to pass a tech screening and get past the HR portion as well. Your mama can teach you how to dress. I'm gonna teach you how to get hired. You seriously can't afford to miss this discussion because it'll be the most candid anyone will ever be with you about interviews. This will be a fun and very interactive session. And yes, you will be exposed to some pottymouth... it's in the title.

The topic is titled The Backup Tune-up and will cover:

Have you ever gotten tired of your 1TB database taking 4+ hrs to backup? Are you sick of having your users breathe down your neck for 2hrs because it’s taking too long to restore a DB? Well now you don’t have to worry about that anymore. I’m going to show you some little known tricks, methods, and trace flags you can use to tune your backups just like you would a query. Backups actually have kind of an execution plan that you can access if you know how, and knowing how to get the individual portions of your backup process down will allow you to knock 80% and even more off of your backup and restore time. I’m not holding anything back in this session. This is a method I’ve used for 15yrs to tune my backups and I’ve had great success with it.

The room is sponsored by GDH and no food will be provided. The meeting will be held Monday, June 13th from 6:00 p.m. - 8:00 p.m. at the at the OKC COCO Click Here for Directions

March 2011 Meeting

The topic is titled Dirty Data? Clean It Up! and will cover:

Dirty data is everywhere, and it's headed for a database near you. Extraction, transformation, and loading (ETL) can be difficult, but often the most challenging component of that process is the validation and clean up of data. Information must be cleansed in such a way that it retains its original message and business value, while conforming to the expectations of the destination system(s). In this session, we will discuss some of the high-level challenges of dealing with dirty data, along with some infrastructure-agnostic recommended practices for doing so. Further, we will dig in and get our fingernails dirty (pun intended) on some specific ways that SQL Server Integration Services (SSIS) can be used to cleanse incoming data.

The room is sponsored by GDH and no food will be provided. The meeting will be held Monday, March 14th from 6:00 p.m. - 7:20 p.m. at the at the OKC COCO Click Here for Directions
